Today's jam was the 2nd anniversary of the first parkour meet-up in Sheffield (29/01/05) which was the first time I went out to meet people to do parkour, I Googled around for something local after watching Jump Britain, and that was posted on the Sheffield forum, so I went along, and have been doing so ever since.
The group photo2 years' training has shown a change in me like I could never have expected. At first I was appealed by the idea of jumping around for a reason, calling it something, and it being an art, now I see parkour as the way I live my life. I literally live my life round it, I'm always thinking about parkour, whether I'm just out some place seeing potential obstacles, thinking about my diet, thinking about training and conditioning or thinking about my achievements and progression. It really goes to show how it has changed me and how I see the world.
I could be like the average 18 year old lad, going out getting wasted every weekend, eating burgers and chips, kebabs, crisps and biscuits, drinking beer, spirits, fizzy drinks, doing nothing of an evening but hanging around street corners and off licences or sat in the smokey pub. No. That's not for me.
Anyway, today was a great day, despite my injury preventing me from my usual training, I got to see old friends I haven't seen in months who came to visit from other cities, I did a bit of training myself, but was restricted and hence could not join in battling Freeman at kong distances!
Lewis came along today for the first time in about a year since he got signed for Rotherham United FC, and he got dropped last week so he's back into parkour for good. He used to be amazing, he knew no fear and could do things we thought impossible. He's had a long time out but I have no doubt he will catch up within three weeks and be better than us all, knowing him!
Visiters came from Manchester (Paul, Freeman, Dean, Jak and co.), York (Will, Will and Drew) and Woody and Tom came from Birmingham and Cambridge respectfully, as they trained in Sheffield all of last year, and returned for the special jam. Nice seeing everyone Hope it's not another year before we train together again!
